Yvonne's story of . . .
God's Mighty Faithfulness
![]()
"We
just don't think she'll make it."
That's what the doctor said to Yvonne's husband
that day in 1989, the day after the car they were traveling in was hit head-on by a truck.
Yvonne suffered a severe head injury and many broken bones that left her in a coma
with the doctors wondering if she would survive.
"Shocked" was the best word to describe how family and
friends felt. "How could this happen to someone who had so much going for her?"
was the question so many asked.
Before the accident, Yvonne was a woman who
truly had everything going her way. She was an accomplished singer, once described
as a "phenomenal talent." She traveled extensively in ministry and had
recorded two albums of Christian music. She even had the privilege of singing with
Grammy and Dove award winner Larnelle Harris in 1987. That same year, she met Jerry
Chapman on a blind date and they married six months later. She had the perfect life.
But this accident was not part of Yvonne's plan
for the "perfect life". The head injury left this self-described
"over-confident" person struggling to do the things that before had come so
easily. Her memory was gone. Her body was weak. Her confidence had
disappeared. Her life had changed forever.
Even so, she fought back, knowing that God's
mighty miracles and His powerful ways could mend her broken life. She just had
to depend totally on Him.
Years later, it's amazing that this
"phenomenal talent" ever walked so close to death. Today, her speaking and
singing comes from the heart of a woman who survived against all the odds. In fact,
sharing encouraging words about His faithfulness is what Yvonne's life is all about.
She believes that women everywhere need to know that God is fully in control, even when
our ordered lives turn to chaos. Even when the "perfect lives" we've
constructed come crashing in around us, we can trust God to rebuild our lives with the
wonderful plans He has designed especially for us.
He is truly an amazing God!
